Litigation Defense Attorney – Overland Park, KS
We’re looking for an experienced litigation defense attorney to join a growing team handling a wide range of civil matters. This position offers hybrid flexibility, independence, and the chance to work with a strong group of attorneys and clients across the state.
About the Role
You’ll handle cases from start to finish, including discovery, motion practice, court appearances, mediations, and trial prep. The work involves close collaboration with partners and clients, providing thoughtful strategy and strong written and oral advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload involving general liability, premises liability, auto, and other civil defense matters
- Draft and argue motions, attend depositions, and participate in mediations and hearings
- Handle all aspects of written discovery and deposition practice
- Prepare case assessments and updates for clients and insurance carriers
- Work closely with senior attorneys and clients to develop case strategies and settlement approaches
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active Kansas Bar license in good standing (Additional licensure in Missouri highly preferred)
- At least three years of civil litigation defense experience
- Strong writing, communication, and analytical skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with team members and clients
- Experience in insurance defense, tort, or commercial litigation is a plus
Compensation and Benefits
- $110,000 - $170,000
- No fixed billable hour requirement
