The Equipment Operator performs a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment, and product support equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates excavation equipment for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.
  • Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
  • Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
  • Responsible for avoiding existing cables and digging by blueprints and designated plans.
  • Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment
  • Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
  • Inspects and fuels vehicles before beginning shift.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Reads utility locates and coordinates day lighting of these facilities.
  • Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on-site.
  • Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications
  • Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Ensuring sites are kept clean and safe.

Requirements

Education and Experience:


  • High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (1) year experience. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand, walk, sit
  • Ability to use hands to handle or feet
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to climb and balance
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs as needed
  • Ability to maintain all safety expectations
  • Works outdoors for extended periods
  • Exposed to extreme weather conditions
  • Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains


Key Competencies, Skills, Abilities:


  • Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
  • Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades.
  • Excellent mechanical skills
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Oral communication skills.

Perks & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $30-$35/HR
