Purpose: ITG Communications is looking for an experienced, knowledgeable Consulting Engineer to support ITG’s Broadband Consulting and Consulting Engineering work streams. Advise clients on FTTP network designs and cost, review and critique third party designs. Develop high-level designs and cost estimates for proposed networks, both private and grant funded projects. Plan, Design, and implementation of Fiber Broadband Networks. Act as a trusted advisor for clients who have the need for broadband networks and collaborate on the life cycle from planning through to construction phases, end to end solutions. Key Responsibilities: · Act as an expert third-party reviewer to evaluate and critique network designs, project plans, and project execution of FTTP projects on behalf of clients who are network funders or owners. · Consult with and advise potential network owners about major network architecture decisions. · Perform fiber network engineering independently and as a team. · Develop high-level network designs for potential FTTP projects, including identifying ways to improve cost and speed deployment. · In some cases, perform low level engineering using 3-GIS, or other GIS platform if required. · Work in GIS engineering and network maintenance platforms, and CADD systems as required. · Develop cost factors for elements FTTP deployments in different regions, and provide cost estimates for high-level conceptual designs to detailed BOMs. · Review field collected data for accuracy and completeness, and in some cases, perform high-level field assessments. · Review outside plant per design standards and make recommendations to support builds. · Work with other departments to coordinate make ready management, permitting and fielding. · Review as-builts, provide post construction inspection, and support network verification and update. · Manage or self-perform multiple projects of varying complexity. · Oversee field or other technical resources to execute work efficiently and successfully. · Communicate clearly and effectively with internal team, government representatives, broadband service providers, other utilities, and consulting clients. · Track progress of project tasks and ensure deadlines are met. · Find innovative solutions to common project roadblocks. · Communicate clearly and regularly to team members, including Project Manager. · Maintain orderly records and project documents. Key Measures / Key Performance Indicators: • Project completion timelines • Quality assurance inspection scores • Safety compliance incidents • Technician productivity metrics • Inventory and equipment utilization • Contractor and vendor performance • Cost control and efficiency ratings - PERSON OVERVIEW Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Industry experience. Experience: · Fiber Optic Certifications a plus. · Strong understanding of outside and inside plant engineering, fiber optic networks, and telecommunication construction. · Understanding of the operating requirements of Internet Service Providers delivering broadband and telecommunications services to homes, businesses, and institutions over fiber optic networks. · Knowledge of NESC code as it relates to telecommunications and common permitting requirements for fiber optic networks. · Experience engineering in a GIS based program, such as QGIS. · Understanding of job cost, change order management and work order processing. · Strong project management skills with the ability to meet project deadlines. · Willingness to learn new skills, software, and technologies. · Excellent verbal and written communication. · Proficiency in MS Office/Excel. · Proficiency in MS Visio. · Valid driver’s license. · Practice good judgement and take ownership in work place safety. · Some day and overnight travel.
