The Permit Coordinator is responsible for managing the coordination and preparation of permit packages required for fiber construction projects. Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit permit applications for fiber projects, ensuring compliance with all jurisdictional requirements
- Determine applicable permitting agencies (DOT, railroad, city, county, etc.) and required documentation
- Use GIS software (ArcGIS, ArcMap, IQGeo, Katapult) to generate traffic control plans and detailed aerial/underground permits
- Collaborate with project managers and designers to gather necessary data from design platforms
- Review permits for accuracy and completeness before submittal
- Maintain tracking systems for permit status and expiration dates
- Monitor jurisdictional changes in permitting processes and communicate updates to team
- Integrate Make Ready details into permit documents as needed
- Coordinate and communicate with municipalities to clarify or resolve permitting issues
- Support ongoing permit updates and compliance with design changes
- Percentage of permits approved on first submission
- Turnaround time for permit preparation and delivery
- Accuracy of submitted documentation
- Volume of permits managed per project
- Coordination response time with municipalities
- Internal compliance with project deadlines
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, or related field (preferred
Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in permitting, utility coordination, or GIS-related work
- Experience using ArcGIS, O-Calc, Katapult, and other mapping or permitting tools
- Prior work with DOT, railroad, or municipal permit processes is strongly preferred
- Direct contact with permitting agencies and local jurisdictions
- Collaboration with internal engineering, design, and project management teams
- Use of technical platforms such as ArcGIS, O-Calc, and permitting databases
- Participation in construction and pre-construction planning

- Ability to interpret and apply jurisdictional requirements to multiple projects
- Effective coordination and communication across internal teams and external agencies
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

- Ability to read printed and digital documents and view computer screens for extended periods
- Visual acuity to interpret mapping software, GIS data, and detailed permitting documents
- Auditory ability to participate in meetings, calls, and video conferences
- Occasional walking and movement within office environments or to attend site-related meetings
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds
