The Drill Operator is responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install conduit, fiber, or utility infrastructure as part of construction projects. Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate drilling rigs and support equipment to install underground utilities according to project specifications
- Read and interpret construction prints, locate utilities, and mark underground services accurately
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and basic equipment maintenance
- Ensure proper placement of conduit using bore logs and tracking systems
- Collaborate with field crews to set up equipment, mix drilling fluid, and pull back conduit or pipe
- Maintain accurate records of bore lengths, depths, and site conditions
- Adhere to all company and regulatory safety procedures and requirements
- Assist with potholing, locating, trenching, or other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Work in various terrain and weather conditions while maintaining productivity and quality
- Bore accuracy and production efficiency
- Equipment condition and maintenance compliance
- On-time completion of assigned bores
- Safety record and incident-free days
- Accuracy of bore logs and documentation
PERSON OVERVIEW
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience
- 1–3 years of directional drilling experience or equivalent training
- Familiarity with Ditch Witch or Vermeer HDD equipment a plus
- Ability to read construction plans and understand underground utility locates
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
- Internal: Works closely with field crews, foremen, and project managers
- External: May interact with utility inspectors, subcontractors, and site contacts
- Frequent work outdoors in varied weather and job site conditions
- Network Stability Leadership: Ensures long-term reliability of the company’s operational network footprint

Salary : $25 - $45
