Reports to: Director of Technology & Development
Travel: ~25%
Salary: $100-150,000
About Iten Defense:
Iten Defense develops advanced material solutions for the protection of personnel and critical equipment in demanding applications. Our work sits at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and real-world performance requiring practical problem solving, strong supplier collaboration, and disciplined execution.
Mission
At the intersection of material science and operational deployment, you be responsible for the integration of our advanced armor solutions into complex land, sea, and air platforms. Your mission is to ensure that every survivability kit is backed by a comprehensive Technical Data Package (TDP) that guarantees performance, manufacturability, and adherence to aggressive delivery timelines. You are the technical authority responsible for turning raw armor panels into mission-critical protection systems.
The Role
This is a mid- or senior-level engineering leadership position focused on the implementation of armor solutions into various applications. In this role, you will be the primary link between our core materials expertise and the specific physical constraints of OEM platforms (e.g., Watercraft, Ground Vehicles, Aerospace). You will be responsible for the development of engineered solutions that meet the fitness-for-use of our customers through customer discovery, translating those needs into requirements, and delivery technical data packages ready for manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
• TDP Ownership & Governance: Responsible for the generation, management, and quality of complete Technical Data Packages (TDP). This includes ensuring all 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and installation instructions are fully vetted and ready for production.
• Requirements & Compliance Management: Own the system-level requirements for each project. You will translate platform-specific constraints (weight budgets, mounting points, environmental durability) into clear engineering directives that align with STANAG, MIL-DTL, NIJ, and other customer requirement.
• External Design Oversight: Act as the primary technical point of contact for third-party design firms and sub-contractors. You will audit their work for technical accuracy, ensuring their designs leverage the unique advantages of our high-pressure consolidated composites.
• Project Timeline & Milestone Management: Drive the engineering schedule to ensure long-lead integration items are identified early. You will lead technical reviews (PDR/CDR) to ensure projects stay on track for on-time delivery.
• Live-Fire & Qualification Strategy: Define the strategy for platform-level validation. You will oversee the transition from design to physical testing, ensuring that integrated kits are prepared for live-fire evaluation and environmental qualification at government or third-party labs.
• Manufacturing Transition: Partner with the Production team to ensure that the TDP is optimized for our in-house pressing, waterjet cutting, and finishing capabilities.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
• knowledge of TDP standards (MIL-STD-31000 or similar) and the ability to manage complex version-controlled data sets.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks.
• Proven ability to manage "design-only" outside firms, holding them accountable to tight tolerances and strict performance specifications.
• Familiarity with both Opaque and Transparent armor integration, including framing systems and specialized mechanical attachments for composites.
• Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies
• 7 years of experience integrating components into military or commercial vehicle platforms (ground, maritime, aviation).
• Experience with materials selection and manufacturing, particularly composites, glass, and ceramics.
• Knowledge of ballistics and platform survivability.
What We’re Looking For
• A practical, hands-on engineer who takes ownership and follows through.
• Someone who is equally comfortable modeling a part, calling a supplier, and solving a problem.
• Not a pure manager - this is a doing role.
• Not entry-level—you should be able to operate independently and make sound engineering decisions.
Why Join Us?
In this role, your work is the final, visible layer of protection for those in harm's way. You will have the authority to shape how the world’s most advanced materials are integrated into the future of global survivability.
Salary : $100,000 - $150,000
