As an Intermediate or Senior Substation Standards Engineer, you will lead the development, implementation, and governance of engineering standards for ITC’s high-voltage transmission substations. This role involves technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic oversight to ensure consistency, reliability, and compliance with industry codes, utility practices, and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the creation and refinement of substation design standards, specifications, and guidelines covering physical layouts, electrical systems, grounding, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
- Performs and reviews complex engineering analyses to support standardization efforts, including fault analysis, bus and cable sizing, grounding system design, and lightning protection.
- Ensures all standards align with applicable codes (IEEE, NESC, NEC), utility requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Evaluates new technologies, equipment, and materials for inclusion in standard practices, balancing innovation with reliability and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborates with engineering, operations, procurement, and construction teams to ensure standards are practical, scalable, and field-tested.
- Maintains and manages a centralized repository of engineering standards, templates, and reference documentation.
- Provides technical leadership during audits, quality reviews, and compliance assessments.
- Mentors and guides junior engineers and standards staff, fostering technical growth and consistency in application.
- Represents the utility in industry working groups, technical committees, and regulatory forums.
- Monitors industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to proactively update standards and practices.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
- Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in related area(s) for Senior Engineer level and two (2) for Intermediate Engineer.
- Power system coursework preferred for electrical engineering majors.
- Utility experience preferred.
- Possess sound analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.
- Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision, in a team environment.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to learn and utilize job specific software.
