Job Summary
It Takes A Village 24hr Childcare Center is seeking a passionate, energetic, and reliable Afterschool Specialist to join our growing team. In this role, you will help create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children ages 2–12 during afterschool hours. Hours: starting at 2pm
Our Afterschool Specialists play an important role in helping children unwind after a long school day while staying engaged in meaningful activities that promote social, emotional, and academic growth. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, have a positive attitude, and are excited about creating fun learning experiences through play, creativity, and structured activities.

Responsibilities
- Plan and implement engaging afterschool activities that promote child development, creativity, and teamwork.
- Supervise children during activities such as homework assistance, sports, arts and crafts, dramatic play, group games, and outdoor play.
- Support children with homework and academic enrichment as needed.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive behavior management techniques to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Ensure active supervision of children at all times, maintaining awareness of children’s locations and safety.
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom and activity space.
- Follow all New York State OCFS health and safety regulations, including supervision and incident reporting procedures.
- Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and team members regarding children’s needs and daily experiences.
- Support children with different learning styles, behavioral needs, or developmental levels in an inclusive environment.
- Assist with special events, themed activities, and camp-style programming that make afterschool time fun and engaging.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children ages 2–12 in settings such as childcare centers, daycare, camps, tutoring programs, or schools strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and classroom behavior management strategies.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to maintain active supervision and ensure children’s safety at all times.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and maintain a positive classroom atmosphere.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced childcare environment.
- Experience in areas such as sports, arts, theater, tutoring, or youth leadership is a plus but not required.
