Scope of Work
ServicePoint is supporting a client in their search for a Server Supervisor for a 6 month hybrid assignment based in San Francisco, CA. Candidates must be local, as consistent onsite presence (2–3 days per week) is required.
The customer operates three primary data centers located in San Francisco, Quincy, and Santa Clara. The San Francisco facility is smaller and approximately 10 years old, while the Quincy location—run as a colocation site by another organization—is currently operating at 60–70% capacity, which is insufficient for failback operations. As their infrastructure expands, the customer is seeking a Server Supervisor to support, lead, and develop their growing Server Administration team.
Role Overview
The Server Supervisor will lead the team responsible for the configuration, deployment, and day-to-day operation of Infrastructure Services servers. This includes physical, distributed, hypervisor, and virtual environments.
The supervisor will:
- Guide the team in delivering best-in-class system administration services.
- Oversee implementation and operational activities across centralized and distributed server environments.
- Ensure stability, security, and efficient operation of infrastructure systems.
- Manage and escalate critical issues while ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Strengthen operational culture by supporting secure, reliable, and efficient IT services.
- Represent and reinforce the customer’s mission, culture, and values through leadership and service excellence.
About Platform Services
The Platform Services team within Infrastructure Services supports the academic, medical, and research mission of the customer by ensuring seamless, secure, and highly available technology services. Responsibilities include:
- Managing and maintaining technology platforms, system services, and cloud services.
- Ensuring critical medical systems—including Epic—operate at peak performance.
- Overseeing data center operations: server management, storage, and networking.
- Managing databases with a focus on security, availability, and performance.
Their work directly impacts the delivery of high-quality health services, research outcomes, student learning, and overall organizational productivity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of training/experience (Computer Science, Engineering, CIS, etc.).
- 5–7 years of experience in IT, infrastructure services, or server administration.
- 1–3 years of experience managing a team of technical professionals.
- Proven experience in IT management, platform services, or server administration.
- Hands-on experience supervising installation, configuration, and modification of Windows and Linux OS, including virtualization technologies.
- Understanding of automation/orchestration methodologies for Linux, Windows, and cloud platforms.
- Strong customer service skills and experience triaging/escalating issues.
- Ability to interpret and apply SLAs, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Deep knowledge of systems design, development, and performance optimization.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles and tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong relationship-building skills with customers, stakeholders, and team members.
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage competing priorities and multiple projects.
- Experience with project-based work, including schedule management, risk identification, and reporting.
- Familiarity with budgeting, business case development, and service management.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to scope solutions, gather requirements, and make sound decisions.
- Creative thinking and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baseline knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, network security).
- Experience migrating workloads to AWS or Azure.
- Experience with DevOps methodologies and infrastructure automation tools.
- PMP/PMI certification or equivalent.
- Server certifications (Microsoft, Red Hat).
