POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist supports and coordinates the creation, design, production, and distribution of electronic, written, and verbal communication materials for print, the web and social media; provides photography services at district events for use in publications; provides support and assistance to staff regarding district communication tools; and provides administrative support to the Executive Director. This position requires knowledge of District Regulations and procedures, the ability to assume responsibility and work effectively and independently under pressure and maintain confidentiality.

- Create, write, edit and produce content for district communications, including newsletters, reports, articles, presentations and website content, ensuring clarity, accuracy and alignment with district messaging and standards.
- Design and produce print and digital materials such as flyers, posters, graphics, annual reports and other publications, including preparing files for print, web and social media distribution using software such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Microsoft Office applications.
- Maintain and update district and school websites to ensure timely, accurate and accessible information for students, staff, families and the community.
- Manage and support district social media platforms and content calendars.
- Photograph district events and maintain an organized library of digital assets, including photos and videos, for use in publications and promotions.
- Compile and analyze information from multiple sources to develop reports and other communications materials.
- Review, proofread and edit documents and materials for accuracy, completeness and quality.
- Provide guidance and support to staff on district communication tools, systems and processes.
- Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with staff, administrators, community members, media representatives and vendors; serve as a liaison as needed.
- Respond to inquiries and provide information, including general questions and those requiring research or knowledge of district procedures, and route communications appropriately.
- Coordinate project timelines, schedules and workflows to ensure timely completion of assignments and communication deliverables.
- Support department business operations, including processing and monitoring purchase orders, invoices, budgets, payroll and other administrative functions using district systems and applications.
- Draft correspondence, reports and other documents for leadership as needed, including independent composition of materials for supervisor review or signature.
- Maintain physical and electronic files and records in accordance with district policies and records retention requirements.
- Apply district, state and federal guidelines, as well as governing policies and procedures in all communications and activities.
- Conduct research and manage documents in accordance with legal, financial and administrative requirements.
- Support school and district crisis communication efforts, including the development, review and distribution of time-sensitive communications across district communication channels.
- Participate in special projects and perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, organize projects and details and make good decisions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a pleasant, tactful and professional manner.
