What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Maintenance Technician position at Isle of Wight County?
This position is responsible for performing highly skilled technical work involving the installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilating, air condition, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment and electrical systems in County owned/supported buildings and facilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, visual acuity, and walking.
- Installs, services, maintains, and repairs boilers and burner control systems-valves, pumps, motors, electrical, and mechanical devices associated with heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, air handling equipment, air compressors, pneumatic control systems, electrical vents, fans, hot water heaters, and electrical systems on mechanical equipment, and other related equipment as needed for proper operation.
- Oversees outside contract work done within County in order to ensure proper installation and operation pertaining to heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration systems.
- Performs duties of certified tradesman when necessary, i.e. electrician, HVAC, plumber.
- Maintains and services alarm systems and sprinkler systems on a routine basis.
- Designs, sizes, and installs new heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in special projects where temperature control is needed.
- Performs air balancing in County owned/supported facilities as needed.
- Maintains inventory of equipment/tools and records necessary for electrical and mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration supplies and parts.
- Performs emergency work on all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems and electrical systems in all County owned/supported facilities in order to provide coverage of all facilities 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Performs preventative maintenance and maintains work/maintenance log on County-owned emergency power generators.
- Coordinates with all departments and co-workers any repairs or maintenance that cannot be done during regular working days and schedules it as necessary to be completed.
- Oversees work of others as needed including apprentice or staff.
- Performs inventory and property management.
- Exercises purchasing authority up to $5,000 without approval from supervisor.
- Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
- Performs other assigned duties.

- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Three (3) years of related work experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
- Master Electrician, Master Plumber, and Master HVAC certifications; and
- Driver's License valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Salary : $52,499 - $69,561
