What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker I position at Isle of Wight County?
This position is responsible for assisting other maintenance positions in the maintenance of the County’s buildings, structures, fixtures, and equipment through projects involving carpentry work, painting, plumbing, and other construction, maintenance, and repair.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Provides assistance in completing light carpentry work, repairing plumbing fixtures, and systems, and replacing light bulbs and filters.
- Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of mechanical and electrical systems within County buildings.
- Performs general building maintenance work to include painting, replacing lighting fixtures, windows and doors, and flushing drains and gutters.
- Assists other maintenance workers and takes direction from the lead maintenance worker.
- Assists in the setup of special events which may require occasional overtime and/or weekend work hours.
- Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
- Performs other assigned duties.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid VA driver's license.

- Knowledge of proper cleaning and maintenance methods and procedures;
- Knowledge of county ordinances, policies, and procedures;
- Skill in interpersonal relations;
- Skill in verbal and written communication;
- Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools;
- Ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles; and
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with other employees and the general public.
Salary : $33,841 - $44,840
