Classification: Part-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Work Schedule: Approximately 2–3 days per week, 3–4 hours per day. Schedule is determined by student caseload and required IEP service minutes.

Position Summary

Island Montessori Charter School is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide high-quality speech and language services to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, flexible, and committed to supporting students in an inclusive educational environment.

This position's hours are based on student caseload and required service minutes. As student enrollment, evaluations, and IEPs change throughout the school year, the schedule and workload may be adjusted to meet student needs.

Essential Duties and Criteria:

Direct Student Services

  • Provide speech-language therapy services as outlined in students' IEPs.
  • Deliver services individually and in small groups based on student needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, service locations, and student groupings while ensuring all required IEP service minutes are provided.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to support student communication, participation, and academic success.

IEP Development and Case Management

  • Maintain ongoing progress monitoring and accurate service documentation.
  • Complete quarterly progress reports that align with school reporting periods.
  • Collect and analyze student data to measure progress toward IEP goals.
  • Write Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP).
  • Develop measurable annual goals and short-term objectives, when applicable.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as requested and collaborate with the IEP team.
  • Communicate recommendations regarding changes to services, accommodations, goals, or student needs to the EC Coordinator.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with IDEA, North Carolina policies, and school procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and timely therapy logs, progress monitoring data, evaluation reports, and student records.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all student information in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, and school policies.
  • Meet all documentation and compliance deadlines established by the school and EC department.

Evaluations and Screenings

  • Conduct speech-language screenings as requested.
  • Complete speech-language evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Interpret assessment results and prepare written evaluation reports.
  • Assist the IEP team in determining eligibility for speech-language services.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with classroom teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families.
  • Collaborate effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary team, including teachers, the EC Coordinator, school psychologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, school counselor, and other service providers as appropriate.
  • Provide consultation and practical communication strategies to teachers and staff to support students across educational settings.
  • Respond to parent and staff inquiries in a timely, professional, and collaborative manner.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain a current North Carolina Speech-Language Pathology license and any required certifications.
  • Stay current on evidence-based practices and state and federal special education requirements.
  • Attend required staff meetings, IEP meetings, professional development, and trainings appropriate for the position.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, ethical practice, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Support the school's mission and collaborate positively with staff, students, and families.
QualificationsRequired
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current North Carolina licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Eligibility to provide speech-language services within North Carolina public schools.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred
  • Experience working in a public school setting.
  • Experience serving students from kindergarten through middle school.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the Montessori philosophy and educational approach.
