Role Description
The Executive Director is a full-time, on-site leadership position based in Islamorada, Florida, responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and daily operations of the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the organization and is responsible for membership growth and retention, financial management, strategic planning, visitor services, communications, publications, advocacy initiatives, special events, and organizational development. The Executive Director represents the Chamber throughout the community and works to advance the interests of local businesses while promoting Islamorada as a world-class destination.
The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and operational management skills, proven experience producing large public events, expertise in marketing and publication development, and the ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of partners and organizations. This position requires strategic thinking, sound judgment, grant-writing experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to balance long-term planning with hands-on problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
• Proven leadership and management experience, including oversight of staff, volunteers, budgets, and organizational operations.
• Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups, organizations, and community partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, presentations, and professional correspondence.
• Experience in event planning, program development, and project management, preferably within a chamber of commerce, nonprofit, tourism, economic development, or membership-based organization.
• Knowledge of financial management, budgeting, reporting, and organizational planning.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors and supporting board governance.
• Familiarity with marketing, advertising, publications, social media, website management, and visitor engagement strategies.
• Experience with grant writing, sponsorship development, fundraising, or revenue-generating initiatives is highly desirable.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Marketing, Hospitality, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience in tourism, economic development, community organizations, local government, or business advocacy is highly desirable.
• Ability to thrive in a highly visible leadership role and serve as an effective ambassador for the organization and the community.
