We’re looking for a Volunteer Coordinator who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and build a thriving volunteer program from the ground up.

Our volunteers already do incredible work—from harvesting backyard fruit to teaching workshops—but we need structure, systems, and leadership to take volunteer engagement to the next level.

If you’re organized, people-centered, and excited about creating something lasting and meaningful, this role might be for you.

🌻 Why You’ll Love Working With Us
  • You’ll shape a new volunteer program that will grow with the organization.
  • You’ll work in a multicultural, mission-driven environment surrounded by passionate staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • You’ll see your impact daily as you help refugees and local volunteers build meaningful connections through food, art, and sustainability.

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Volunteer Coordinator to build, formalize, and grow IRN’s volunteer program. This role is ideal for a mission-driven, organized, and community-focused professional who can take initiative, create systems, and support volunteers across multiple programs.

The Volunteer Coordinator will manage recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention of both individual and group volunteers, while supporting operations in harvesting, garden/arts programming, community events, food preservation, and office/admin tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Program Development

  • Create and implement volunteer management systems (recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, policies, and tracking).
  • Develop volunteer job descriptions and placement pathways with IRN staff.
  • Maintain volunteer records, data, hours, and impact reporting.

Recruitment & Outreach

  • Recruit volunteers from community organizations, faith-based organizations, and student groups (in this order).
  • Post opportunities across relevant online platforms.
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries and coordinate orientations.
  • Represent IRN at community outreach events.

Training & Support

  • Train volunteers for roles in harvesting, garden/art activities, community events, food preservation, and office/admin support.
  • Provide ongoing communication, support, and coordination.
  • Foster inclusive volunteer spaces that welcome and uplift refugee participants.

Program & Event Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with staff to align volunteers with weekly harvests, RGAP programming, and distribution activities.
  • Support community events and special volunteer initiatives.
  • Organize annual volunteer appreciation activities.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Experience in volunteer engagement, community outreach, or program coordination preferred.
  • Cultural competence and willingness to work with diverse refugee and immigrant communities.
  • Comfort with Google Workspace and basic data management.
  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
