Weekend Overnight Registered Nurse (RN)
Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM (Overnight)
Schedule: Weekends (Fri–Sat, Sat–Sun, or as defined by facility)

Reports To: Director of Nursing (DON) / Nursing Supervisor
Position Summary
The Weekend Overnight RN provides direct nursing care to residents during nighttime hours and ensures the safe, efficient operation of the nursing unit. This role includes supervision of overnight staff, clinical assessment, emergency response, medication administration, and maintaining regulatory and facility standards during weekend overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Direct Resident Care
Provide nursing care according to residents’ individualized plans of care.
Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor changes in condition, and document findings promptly.
Complete required overnight treatments and procedures.
2. Medication Administration
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
Follow medication protocols and maintain proper documentation.
Monitor residents for potential side effects or adverse reactions.
3. Supervision & Team Leadership
Supervise CNAs, LPNs, and other caregivers on the overnight shift.
Provide guidance, coaching, and support to ensure high-quality care.
Ensure staff assignments are completed and provide assistance as needed.
4. Emergency & Clinical Response
Respond promptly to emergencies, changes in resident condition, and calls for assistance.
Contact on-call providers as needed and follow orders accurately.
Initiate emergency protocols (e.g., CPR, fall response) when appropriate.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record.
Complete overnight nursing reports for incoming shifts.
Communicate significant resident changes to the DON, Administrator, or on-call nurse.
6. Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to facility policies, state and federal regulations, and infection control practices.
Conduct overnight safety rounds and ensure resident environment is safe and secure.
Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
7. Resident & Family Support
Provide compassionate care and reassurance to residents during nighttime hours.
Communicate professionally with families when necessary, following facility guidelines.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the state.
CPR/BLS certification required.
Experience
Long-term care or geriatric nursing experience preferred.
Overnight or weekend nursing experience beneficial but not required.
Skills & Competencies
Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to remain calm and focused during emergencies.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, move, or assist residents weighing 50 pounds with proper equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, and respond quickly throughout the shift.
Ability to work awake and alert during overnight hours.
