Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and other commercial trucks on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering strictly to DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper cargo securing for safe transit.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS navigation systems to optimize routes and meet delivery schedules across various locations.
- Transport a wide range of cargo including refrigerated goods, automobile transportation, flatbed loads, tankers, or roll-off containers while maintaining compliance with all safety standards.
- Perform routine inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure mechanical soundness and report any issues promptly for maintenance.
- Manage documentation for freight shipments, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and logs in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and warehouse personnel to coordinate pickups and deliveries while providing excellent customer service.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving across long distances or regional routes.
- Demonstrated ability to handle various types of freight such as hazardous materials (Hazmat), dangerous goods, refrigerated cargo, flatbed loads, tanker operations, or dump trucks.
- Familiarity with truck loading and unloading procedures including manual handling techniques and forklift operation where applicable.
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations to ensure compliance at all times.
- Experience operating vehicles with manual transmission and proficiency in using GPS navigation tools for efficient routing.
- Ability to perform truck inspections, basic maintenance checks, and load securement procedures independently.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling processes combined with excellent driving skills to ensure safety and timeliness on every route.
