Role Description The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across multiple states within a fast-paced construction environment. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, manages wage garnishments and other deductions, and provides responsive payroll support to both field and office staff. The Senior Payroll Specialist will work closely with HR, Accounting, Benefits and project teams to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
• Process weekly and/or biweekly payroll for multistate workforce.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
• Administer wage garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other mandatory deductions in compliance with legal requirements.
• Audit timesheets, job codes, and pay rates to ensure accuracy before payroll submission.
• Maintain payroll data for new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
• Respond promptly and professionally to employee payroll inquiries.
• Reconcile payroll data with accounting systems and support financial reporting.
• Prepare payroll reports for management, job costing, and compliance purposes.
• Assist with payroll tax filings, audits, and year-end reporting.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to increase payroll efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
• 5 years of full cycle payroll experience, preferably in a multistate and/or construction environment.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) highly preferred.
• Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of compliance requirements.
• Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting.
• Experience with ERP system, with Viewpoint considered a plus.
• Proficiency with payroll software (ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, UKG, or similar).
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
