Job Description What you can expect in a typical day As Emergency Response Coordinator, you will be an integral part of our Emergency Response Team. Reporting directly to the Irving Oil Fire Chief, the Emergency Response Coordinator is part of the primary response during emergencies, including fire, medical, rescue, and HAZMAT at the Saint John Refinery and associated facilities and pipelines. The Emergency Response Coordinator is responsible for the safety of all personnel and assets for the purpose of maintaining control, protecting the public and company, and minimizing the impact of the incident. Act as a lead responder during emergencies to implement emergency response plans. Inspect and maintain all emergency response equipment, including but not limited to: Fire Trucks, small emergency equipment: fire extinguisher, fire hydrants, hoses, and fireboxes. Draft rescue plans for confined space entries and execute mitigation plans to protect employees in accordance to the latest regulations and legislation. Participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews and Pre-Shutdown Readiness Review. Support ER Trainer and ERSS with coordinating emergency response training within Fire Brigade: Collaborate between Operations and Area Trainers to identify and recommend training courses in order of priority. Conduct monthly site specific drills and exercises. Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and emergency response organizations. Participate in training sessions such as: Rescue training, boat training, HAZMAT training, and fall protection. Participate in drills and exercises to ensure employees are equipped for success. Drive and operate all types of Fire Fighting vehicles. Identify potential issues with Industrial Fire Brigade staffing levels and communicate to Fire Chief. Provide support for Turnaround including Rope Rescue, Medical Response. Audit and support maintenance and repairs of emergency response assets such Hydrants, firewater flushing, building alarms, etc. for the Refinery ESJ, and Canaport. Professional skills Ability to handle stress; able to react quickly in various situations and know when to escalate. Strong Leadership and Communication skills is critical Strong teamwork skills. Able to make focused, quick decisions within your scope of knowledge. Class 5 or above Driver’s License with air brakes. May be required to come in on days off for training purposes or emergency calls. Will be required to work shift work. Travel Travel will be a requirement for training purposes- travel documentation must be valid and up to date (passport). Education and experience Working towards or has obtained Industrial Fire Officer & Hazmat Ops certification. Must have NFPA 1081 Industrial Fire Brigade certification and Advanced Tactical Training, Medical First response, and Rope Rescue or equivalent certifications. 3 Years of Industrial Firefighting Experience with other working experience in a heavy Industrial environment, such as Refinery experience in Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Security, and/or as a volunteer Fire Fighter. Or 5 years of Civil Firefighting experience with minimal Industrial Firefighting experience. Working knowledge of NFPA codes, Emergency Response, and ICS Canada.
