The Utilities and Facilities Operators Leader ensures efficient and compliant delivery of utilities such as steam, water, air, and refrigeration, while maintaining adherence to regional codes and safety standards. This role oversees powerhouse operations, yard crew activities, and a wide range of facility maintenance functions, including pest control, sanitation, seasonal upkeep, and compliance with regulatory and customer audits. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and ensure operational excellence.

- $80,000 - $113,000 (please note that this is an estimate and actual pay will vary depending on experience, qualifications, and professional certifications.)
The Utilities and Facilities Operators Leader ensures efficient and compliant delivery of utilities such as steam, water, air, and refrigeration, while maintaining adherence to regional codes and safety standards. This role oversees powerhouse operations, yard crew activities, and a wide range of facility maintenance functions, including pest control, sanitation, seasonal upkeep, and compliance with regulatory and customer audits. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and ensure operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure proper methods and procedures for utilities delivery (steam, water, air, refrigeration) in compliance with regional codes and safety standards.
- Oversee maintenance and operation of site vehicles and equipment, including jockey trucks, front-end loaders, tractors, trucks, Lull, mowers, and ancillary yard equipment.
- Monitor and comply with state, city, and FM Global codes and regulations; support audits by DEC, DOH, FM Global, and maintain readiness for GMP, BRCGS, SGS, ASI, and customer inspections.
- Manage pest control, housekeeping, janitorial, sanitation, seasonal maintenance, and buildings/grounds upkeep.
- Oversee HVAC maintenance, preventative maintenance (PMs), vehicle inspections, mill painting, office renovations, and site communications systems.
- Schedule and monitor annual PMs and monthly maintenance for manlifts, elevators, and other critical equipment.
- Manage facilities/utilities budget and vendor-managed inventory.
- Oversee railroad track maintenance and repairs.
- Set up yearly blanket service contracts for fire/security systems, HVAC, site vehicles, air compressors, sludge removal, pest control, landscaping, and other services.
- Maintain and operate locksmith equipment; supply keys and locks as required.
- Supervise hourly powerhouse employees and outside contractors for repairs and improvements; review and approve time entries for accuracy and compliance.
- Supervise and schedule yard crew and contractors for daily tasks, repairs, and improvements.
- Assist in planning and coordination of contract service work.
- Monitor, track, and enhance equipment availability.
- Inspect projects for specification compliance; direct safety inspections and preventative maintenance programs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in utilities operations, facilities management, or industrial maintenance.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
