JOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
PAY GRADE: Para 030/187 days
DEPARTMENT: Assigned Campus
DATE REVISED: May 2001
JOB GOAL: Assist the special education teacher in providing for the physical and instructional needs of
students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including
self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of
the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher and/or diagnostician.

Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities
- Maintain confidentiality
- Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a
- Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom,
- Assist teacher and/or diagnostician in maintaining, copying, and transferring confidential folders as
- Assist special needs students with individual tasks as may be required, including, but not limited
hygiene
- Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical,
- Work with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
- Perform other duties that enhance the safety, security, and instructional needs of the campus as
