Summary:
The Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) ensures all welding activities meet company quality standards, project specifications and comply with ASME Section VIII (U-Stamp and NBIC (R-Stamp) code requirements. This position oversees welding inspections, reviews documentation and verifies that fabrication, repair and alteration processes meet quality and regulatory standards. The role requires strong technical knowledge of pressure vessel fabrication and repair.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform visual and dimensional inspection on welded joints, pressure vessels, and piping systems to confirm compliance with U-Stamp and R-Stamp codes.
- Work closely with welders to verify joint fit-up, weld parameters and overall quality
- Verify welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) are current and conform to code.
- Review and interpret ASME, NBIC, and client specifications for fabrication and repair projects
- Maintain all inspection records, non-conformance reports and documentation required for certification audits.
- Collaborate with production, engineering and quality teams to address weld quality issues and implement corrective actions
- Witness tests including hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing per code requirements.
- Support preparation and review of data reports for National Board registration
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help train personnel on welding standards and inspection processes.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits as required
- Understand and comply with company, customer and safety policies
- Perform other duties as directed by management
Required Skills
- Experience working in U-Stamp and R-Stamp authorized facilities
- Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, IX and NBIC code requirements, preferred
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
- Must be able to communicate using oral and basic written communication
- Must be able to work with a team and independently
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld maps
- Arrange for reliable transportation to and from work

Work environment
This job primarily operates in an indoor work environment but may occasionally operate in an outside environment. The role occasionally works in all weather conditions, including but not limited to: extreme wind, rain, cold, heat, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This position may require occasional evening and weekend work as job duties demand.
Licenses & Certifications
- Current AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification, preferred
- Valid Driver's License
Education & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in welding inspection for ASME pressure vessels
- Knowledge of API 1104, AWS DI .1, preferred
- Must pass a Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Screening
- Must pass a background check and motor vehicle record check
