Account Manager / Business Development Manager - Transportation & Logistics

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Account Manager to join our growing transportation and logistics team. This role is responsible for developing new business opportunities, managing existing customer relationships, securing freight opportunities, and driving revenue growth across our asset-based dry van trucking operation and logistics brokerage division.

The ideal candidate will have experience in transportation sales, account management, freight brokerage, or business development within the trucking and logistics industry. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of dry van transportation, brokerage operations, customer bid processes, lane pricing strategies, and intermodal transportation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and secure new customer accounts through prospecting, networking, cold calling, referrals, and strategic business development efforts.

Manage and grow existing customer relationships by identifying opportunities to increase freight volume and expand service offerings.

Respond to customer Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Quotation (RFQs), and transportation pricing bids across multiple lanes and service modes.

Analyze freight opportunities, lane profitability, market conditions, and capacity availability to develop competitive pricing strategies.

Collaborate with operations, dispatch, brokerage, and leadership teams to ensure customer expectations and service commitments are met.

Identify opportunities to provide transportation solutions utilizing company-owned dry van assets, brokerage services, and intermodal transportation options.

Maintain regular communication with customers regarding service performance, shipment activity, market conditions, and growth opportunities.

Conduct customer meetings, presentations, and business reviews to strengthen relationships and secure additional freight.

Monitor transportation industry trends, market rates, and competitive activity.

Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer interactions, opportunities, and forecasts within CRM systems.

Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and revenue objectives.

Qualifications

3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, trucking sales, account management, or business development.

Demonstrated success in securing new accounts and growing existing customer relationships.

Strong understanding of dry van trucking operations and freight brokerage services.

Experience preparing and submitting transportation bids, lane pricing, and contract proposals.

Knowledge of intermodal transportation and multimodal supply chain solutions.

Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to analyze freight markets, transportation costs, and customer requirements.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with CRM platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and transportation management systems.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with asset-based carriers and third-party logistics (3PL) operations.

Existing transportation industry contacts and shipper relationships.

Experience serving manufacturing, retail, consumer goods, food and beverage, automotive, or industrial customers.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
