Job Summary
The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of IRONBULL, responsible for the operational leadership and organizational growth, partnership development, financial health, staff/volunteer supervision, and public image of the organization. This leadership role involves working closely with the Board of Directors to advance the mission of promoting and executing impactful outdoor events and programs. The ED will serve as the primary link between the board's vision and day-to-day operations, ensuring all activities align with the organization's mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategic Planning: Provide visionary leadership and execute the organization's strategic and annual operating plans in collaboration with the Board.
- Fundraising & Financial Oversight: Support board-led fundraising efforts and manage grant development, sponsorship fulfillment, and donor stewardship, including cultivating relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and grant agencies to ensure financial sustainability. Oversee budget development, financial reporting, and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Event & Program Management: Event execution is led by volunteer race directors and partners; the ED provides oversight, coordination, and standards, ensuring high-quality experiences that meet organizational goals and safety standards.
- Marketing & Communications: Direct marketing strategies to increase race registration and public visibility.
- Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization, building and maintaining strong relationships with community partners, government officials, the media, and a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Staff & Volunteer Management: Recruit, supervise, and motivate a high-performing team and a strong volunteer base, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and professional work environment.
- Operations & Compliance: Manage day-to-day operations, ensure effective internal systems, and maintain compliance with all legal standards and best practices for nonprofit management and outdoor events.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, event management, natural resources, public administration) is required.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of professional leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit, events, or outdoor recreation setting, with a proven track record of success in management, fundraising, and program development.
- Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and grant management.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including office settings and rough outdoor terrain, and a willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for events.
- Proficiency with event management software, CRM systems, and digital marketing strategies is an asset.
- Experience directing races/events is not required, but very helpful
