JOB DUTIES
The Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) is a 50 -year nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage and empower individuals, families, and groups to realize their aspirations and work together to create a just, vibrant, and sustainable community. ICC also strengthens communities through advocacy, neighborhood organizing, and community development initiatives.
Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) is seeking a dedicated seasonal Site Coordinator for its VITA tax program site. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS-sponsored initiative that provides no-cost tax preparation for households earning $54,000 or less. Each year, ICC trains and certifies volunteers through the IRS Link & Learn Certification process to ensure our community receives accurate and confidential tax preparation services.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all responsibilities that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the VITA sites, including maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of taxpayer information
- Coordinates with the Director of Programs on all aspects of site management, IRS and program requirements, and e-file administration
- Assists with outreach to residents, students, and workers, increasing awareness about the program
- Manages VITA site operations during the tax season and ensures the site is open as scheduled and adequately staffed to meet the demand of appointments
- Ensures that all volunteers working at the site have completed the required certification, and recognizes and appreciates volunteers
- Ensures that all volunteers working at the site have the proper tools and information to file tax returns accurately
- E-Filing/Transmission and Quality Review:
- Acts as the e-file administrator
- Reviews tax returns to be e-filed to ensure quality and completeness
- E-files return within 48 hours of preparation
- Maintains files for accepted returns and paper returns
- Reviews, rejects, and informs tax filers within 24 hours. Take necessary action to fix the problem and resubmit the tax return
- Attends relevant IRS and Ironbound Community Corporation meetings as directed by the Director of Programs
- Assists at Ironbound Community Corporation's free tax preparation events
- Completes additional related tasks when requested
- Represents the work of Ironbound Community Corporation professionally and responsibly

JOB SPECIFICATIONS OR QUALIFICATIONS, SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Prior VITA experience required – familiar with TaxSlayer Software
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, or related field preferred
- Required to pass the online IRS certifications in Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Intake/Interview and Quality Review, Advanced, and Site Coordinator Training
- Strong Customer Service and Problem-Solving Skills
- Must be available to work flexible hours, evenings, and Saturdays
- Ability to manage and coordinate an all-volunteer staff
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work with Microsoft Excel
