Seasonal Installation Technician

Iron, Wood, & Glitter (IWG)
Charlottesville, VA Temporary
POSTED ON 7/25/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/23/2026

Six weeks. Housing and travel covered. And at the end of it, you'll have built something 50,000 people walk through each year.

Iron, Wood, and Glitter is hiring 4 Seasonal Installation Technicians to build a large-scale immersive lighting experience in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is a walk-through environment, light tunnels, wrapped trees, illuminated trails, oversized lighting installations, music programming and more — built across acres of grounds over six weeks and opened to the public for the holiday season.

This is not residential holiday lighting. It's production-scale install work: structural builds, power distribution, and detail work that add up to something genuinely impressive. If you've worked in event production, scenic install, landscaping, electrical, or general construction, you'll recognize the rhythm.

What You'll Do

  • Wrap trees and landscape — trunks, canopies, and shrubs to a consistent spec.
  • Build large-format structures — light tunnels, arches, and oversized displays. Assembly, rigging, anchoring, etc.
  • Run power — cable runs, trenching and staking, weatherproofed connections, transformers, timers, and GFCI protection under crew lead direction.
  • Light paths and grounds — staking fixtures along walking routes, uplighting, and adjusting for sightlines so the guest experience reads correctly after dark.
  • Work from ladders and lifts as needed, and keep staging areas, tools, and materials organized.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair runs during build and through final walkthrough.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18.00 – $22.00 per hour, based on experience
  • $150 per week per diem
  • Housing provided at no cost for the duration of the contract
  • Travel to and from the job region covered
  • Consistent hours across the full six-week build
  • Potential paid strike work in 2027 — technicians who perform well on the build are first in line for the teardown crew

What You Need

  • Ability to work from ladders comfortably and safely
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the day
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all conditions: cold, wind, and rain are part of an October–November build
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must pass a background check
  • Able to commit to the full October 1 – November 17 window

Nice to Have

  • Event production, scenic, or festival install experience
  • Landscaping, tree care, or grounds maintenance background
  • Low-voltage electrical familiarity: transformers, timers, GFCI, load balancing
  • Prior lift certification (OSHA/ANSI)
  • Experience on a small crew where everyone does a bit of everything

Why This One's Worth Your Time

You'll finish with something on your résumé that's hard to get: hands-on, production-scale immersive install experience. And if you're good, we'll want you back in February for strike, and again next build season, and potentially other seasonal projects! You will grow as we grow. We're a small but mighty company and believe in creating the next generation of experience engineers.
