The Utility Inspection Technician (UIT) Position Inspects And Conducts Preventative Maintenance Condition Assessments On Sanitary Sewer Facilities And Systems Including Manholes, Wastewater Collection Lines, And Other Appurtenances. Condition Assessments Are Conducted Using Acoustical Assessment Technology, Manhole Virtual Modeling (MVM) LIDAR Technology And Inflow / Infiltration (I&I) Flow Meters. The UIT Is Required To:

  • Maintain a variety of records relating to inspection work activities.
  • Identify equipment and material needs for each assigned project.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment used.
  • Perform required labor involved in the removal and replacement of manhole covers.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Read and interpret basic maps and blueprints.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and to interpret graphical data.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of proper use of general construction tools and equipment. Knowledge of basic safe work practices related to construction activities. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, and methods and procedures used in utility maintenance construction and repair activities.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Motorized vehicles and equipment including pick-up and utilities trucks, May include work around equipment including, but not limited to, combination jet/vac trucks, backhoes, loaders, locating equipment, tampers, compressors, hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, valve keys, mobile phones and radios, pipe cutters, pipes, manholes, valves, TV/video equipment, hydrants, fill and road materials. Mobile electronic devices and GPS equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The characteristics of the work environment described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Frequent hazardous exposure around traffic.

Required

  • Excellent technical, communication, and organizational skills
  • 2 years construction experience
  • Additional requirements include a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
  • A pre-employment drug test as well as random drug testing is also required.
  • Travel is required. Must be willing to travel to remote work locations, both in and out of state.

Preferred:

  • Experience with utility assessment technology, utility locating, mapping technology
  • Time spent on construction sites, observation or involvement in methods of handling traffic
  • Familiarity with construction processes, installation methods, basic utility system means and methods.
  • Ability to comprehend/navigate State and Municipality requirements as they relate to our projects
