Position Overview
The Project Manager (PM) will actively manage projects by communicating with clients and Criterion employees; makes site visits if necessary. Apply technical subject matter expertise to make intelligent project decisions. Maintain knowledge of equipment, sampling techniques, and relevant regulations. Manage projects with financial goals and with accountability for project profitability and execution.
The PM will supervise a team of Industrial Hygienists by scheduling projects, providing career guidance, reviewing timesheets, and generally supporting and encouraging the supervised team.
Essential Functions
- Takes calls/emails from prospective clients/repeat clients.
- Gathers project information and develops cost estimates/proposals.
- Takes job assignments from client and schedules IHs.
- Opens and manages projects in Access/QuickBooks
- Schedules the job. Which techs are available? How long is the job? What equipment do we need? What sample media?
- Manages project, visits job site as needed, supports assigned technician/inspector, checks in with client as needed, conflict resolution, speaks with upper level/supervisory abatement personnel as needed.
- Tracks sample results from the lab (in-house and outside labs like EMSL and Batta)
- Communicates results to interested parties like client, abatement contractor and construction personnel (often job tech can handle this)
- Oversees report writing and often writes report depending on workload and report detail needed.
- After report is delivered to client, works up/approves invoice. On long term jobs, invoices are sent monthly. To get an overdue invoice paid, will contact the client directly.
- Tracks budget (number of shifts, samples) during project and requests change orders in timely
- Checks in with tech/inspector. How did the job go? Any issues?
- Supports, encourages employees that they supervise.
- Tracks onboarding, development, growth, seeks growth opportunities for employees they supervise.
- In addition to developing as a PM with experience, keeps up with the latest news, technology, regulations, becomes an expert, stays an expert, adds certs (Project Designer, Management Planner, CIH, CSP, CHMM)
- Conducts mid-year check-in and annual reviews for employees they supervise.
- Partners with HR for all recruitment efforts (review resumes, job-fit analysis, interviews)
- Fills the scheduling board daily in collaboration with other PM’s.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or needed.

Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role and may sit, stand, and use a PC for long periods of time. Bending, reaching, or stooping may be necessary for use of filing cabinets or office machines. This job operates in a professional office environment, however, may be required to visit project sites. Propper PPE is required on project sites. This position must be able to speak and interpret the English language. Spanish is a plus. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information via phone, text, or email. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or experience in related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Access databases required. Experience in QuickBooks Online, a plus!
- Experience with proposals, budgets and contracts is a plus.
- Experience with project management and spreadsheet applications preferred.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
