What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Monitor - Graveyard Shift position at Iron County Care & Share?
Summary:
The Shelter Monitor is responsible for maintaining the security of the building and clients, answering the phone, admitting clients and completing the intake process during the evening and/or waking clients in the morning (depending on scheduled hours), making and serving breakfast or dinner and sack lunches, ensuring clients leave the building by 8:00 am, and completing daily scheduled chores.
Scope and Impact of Job:
Line of Reporting: The Shelter Monitor reports directly to the Shelter Supervisor. In case the Shelter Supervisor is not available, the Shelter Monitor will report to the Client Services Manager or Operations Manager. The Shelter Monitor works closely with both the Client Services Manager and case managers to meet the needs of clients. The Shelter Monitor will be evaluated annually by their supervisor.
Hours: The shelter is open 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
General Shifts include:
Grave Shift: 12 AM to 8 AM
Day Shift: 8 AM to 4 PM
Swing Shift: 4 PM to 12 AM

Required Knowledge and Experience:
The Shelter Monitor must:
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, especially the ability to manage clients experiencing mental and physical challenges
- Have experience cooking and preparing nutritious meals
- Have working knowledge of computers and email programs
- Have an understanding and empathy for those who suffer the conditions of poverty and homelessness
- Have the ability to follow directions from supervisors
- Have a High School diploma or GED, or equivalent experience
The Shelter Monitor is required to:
- Have or be able to get a valid Utah driver's license upon hire
- Have or be able to get a food handler's permit upon hire
- Have or be able to get CPR/First Aid certification upon hire
Primary Responsibilities:
The Shelter Monitor must follow the ICCS Policies and Procedures. The Shelter Monitor is responsible for the emergency shelter coverage, including care of clients, meal preparation, keeping facility clean, washing linens, completing chores and maintaining records of clients.
General responsibilities include:
- Answer phone during work hours and on‐call hours
- Maintain security of the building by checking all locks at the beginning of shift and conducting a perimeter check of the facility at least once per hour after lights out
- Accurately complete intake for all new clients
- Complete all shift responsibilities as defined in ICCS Policy and Procedures; this includes preparing meals, cleaning kitchen after meal period, starting laundry and checking clients in or out of the facility
- Maintain an accurate log of all services provided to clients on a daily basis
- Maintain and communicate notes of events from the shift before to the next shift
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
- The Shelter Monitor must be able to maintain a professional relationship with all clients.
