Position Summary
The Security Specialist provides in-depth cybersecurity, data protection, compliance, and governance support for the IRS M365 cloud environment. This role focuses on security analysis, risk mitigation, audit logging, data protection, and ensuring that all M365 services meet federal security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support development of data readiness and protection plans integrating Microsoft Purview.
Provide cyber architecture and security oversight for all M365 platforms.
Assist in documenting and managing security change requests and audit logging.
Ensure compliance with IRS data protection standards, federal compliance rules, and governance frameworks.
Support AvePoint security configuration (BYOK, IP restrictions, SFTP, tenant migrations).
Develop and maintain enterprise security policies across M365 services, including Power Platform connectors.
Collaborate with technical teams on security integration across SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, and Azure.
Troubleshoot and mitigate security incidents affecting any M365 service.
Contribute to bi-weekly and monthly security reporting, risk assessments, and mitigation plans.
Required Qualifications
5 years of experience with Microsoft 365 cloud platform security.
Strong understanding of Azure AD security, Intune, identity governance, and compliance.
Experience with Purview, Defender, and M365 compliance center.
PowerShell scripting experience.
Ability to interpret federal security requirements (FISMA, NIST, IRS internal standards).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Security/Other Requirements
Must obtain and maintain Tier II MBI.
Participation in emergency off-hours response may be required.
