Project Manager Capital Projects
Position Purpose
Under the supervision of the Director of Construction, the Project Manager oversees capital construction and renovation projects for the district. Responsibilities include developing scopes of work, managing budgets and schedules, soliciting bids, coordinating contractors, and ensuring projects comply with North Carolina public school capital project requirements and Board of Education policies.
Essential Job Functions
- Develops scopes of work, specifications, and project documents for capital projects.
- Manages construction and renovation projects from planning through completion.
- Solicits bids and proposals in accordance with state requirements and Board policy.
- Assists with contractor selection and project coordination.
- Develops and manages project budgets and schedules to ensure projects stay on time and within budget.
- Coordinates with architects, engineers, contractors, maintenance staff, and school administrators.
- Conducts site visits to monitor project progress, quality, and safety.
- Reviews pay applications, invoices, and change orders for accuracy.
- Maintains project records, reports, schedules, and related documentation.
- Ensures projects comply with applicable building codes, safety standards, and district requirements.
- Provides regular project updates to the Director of Construction.
Additional Duties
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of construction project management and facility maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of North Carolina public school capital project procedures and bidding requirements.
- Ability to develop budgets, schedules, and project plans.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and the public.
Travel Requirements
- Frequent travel between schools, project sites, and district offices may be required.
Qualifications Profile
- Experience in construction project management, maintenance, or capital project coordination preferred.
- Valid driver's license or ability to provide transportation.
