Social Media Manager

IPDN-Professional Diversity Network
Baltimore, WA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/16/2026

We strongly encourage people of color, transgender and non-binary people to apply. HRC is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes everyone, including non-LGBTQ people, to join our team. Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that people from marginalized communities are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At HRC, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Position Summary:

The Social Media Manager reports directly to the Deputy Director of Digital Communications, leading on HRC’s day-to-day and rapid response social media coverage. This position will work cross-departmentally across HRC, including with both the Federal & State Affairs and Equality Programs Divisions to help drive engagement and grow audiences for HRC’s social media platforms. The manager will be responsible for written and visual social media content, including short-form videos and graphics.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. HRC is currently operating in a hybrid model, with employees in the office two (2) days a week and remote three (3) days a week.

Position Responsibilities:

Content Development:

  • Lead on developing content — written, graphic, and video — for HRC’s social media channels, including:
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Facebook
  • Bluesky
  • Threads
  • Twitter/X
  • LinkedIn
  • Draft, edit, and publish content covering HRC’s work, including advocacy and electoral content that converts online engagement into action, content focused on programmatic initiatives that educate our audiences and boost LGBTQ visibility, and cultural moments that build community.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and content creators to reach new audiences and promote key HRC narratives and calls to action.
  • Work alongside the Deputy Director of Digital Communications and fellow team members to determine HRC’s editorial calendar and flow of social media content.

Strategy Coordination:

  • Work alongside fellow teams, namely the Press, Brand, and Campaigns teams, to help inform HRC’s digital presence across platforms.
  • Provide social media analytics for use in reports, debriefs, etc.
  • Meet with outside teams, both in Digital Communications and inter-departmentally, to track ongoing content strategy and identify social media opportunities.

Position Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience in social media and content development for platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Twitter/X, and Bluesky required.
  • Experience with advocacy organizations, legislative offices, or working through at least one election cycle preferred, ideally for a candidate/campaign.
  • A skilled and fast writer with strong attention to detail.
  • A creative, empathetic thinker who can take complicated issues and translate them into plain language and visual concepts (including short-form video) suited for communicating online.
  • Interest in emerging social and communications platforms preferred.
  • Experience in management tools like Sprout Social, and content creation tools like Canva, CapCut, and Adobe Premiere Pro, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with social media reporting and analytics required.
  • Personal interest in and alignment with HRC’s values, and with the broader fight for LGBTQ equality and the liberation of those who are multiply marginalized, preferred.
  • Travel around 15% will be required. This travel may include evenings, weekends, and overnight stays.

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign and/or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.

Employer is the Human Rights Campaign, Inc., an I.R.C. 501(c)(4) non-profit entity.
