What are the responsibilities and job description for the K-12 Music Teacher (2026-2027) position at Iowa Valley Community School District?
Iowa Valley CSD is looking for someone with high energy that can continue to expand and maintain excitement for our music program! Our music department has two directors overseeing our K-4 Music, 5-12 Band, & 5-12 Chorus Programs. In addition to concerts, we also have a Show Choir, Pep Band, & Jazz Band.
Iowa Valley has recently undergone a multi-million dollar upgrade, which included upgrading the music room. We also have an actual auditorium for concerts and programs!!
A Music Education Teacher plans & delivers comprehensive music instruction, fostering music appreciation and skills in alignment with Iowa Core standards. Key responsibilities include conducting classroom music, directing performances/concerts, managing student behavior, and assessing progress. Valid Iowa licensure (K-12) with appropriate music endorsements is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction: Deliver comprehensive music instruction (vocal and instrumental) that focuses on rhythm, movement, music literacy, and theory.
- Performance & Events: Plan and direct school concerts, holiday programs, and community performances (e.g., Christmas programs, assemblies).
- Curriculum Development: Design lesson plans that align with Iowa standards and school-wide curriculum goals.
- Classroom Management: Create a safe, engaging, and collaborative classroom environment.
- Assessment & Reporting: Evaluate student progress, maintain records, and provide feedback on musical growth.
- Collaboration: Work with other staff members to coordinate school performances and interdisciplinary projects.
