Hours Required: 5 Hours per week - Chemistry for 30 weeks
Summary: The chemistry lab assistant position involves cleaning and maintaining the chemistry laboratory environment on campus. Washing, cleaning, and inventory of laboratory equipment is the primary role of this position. On occasion, preparation of chemical experiments, demonstrations, and out-reach activities may also be involved. No hazardous situations are present unless under the immediate direction of Dr. Jason R. Poock. Lab assistants sometime learn demonstrations and work with the chemical inventory.

Essential Job Duties:
- Conducts lab setups in collaboration with instructors.
- Wash glassware, clean lab, organize the inventory, complete other duties as assigned.
- Tools Used on job: Hammer, mop, broom, pipettes, spatulas, balances, cups, cylinders.
- Machines Used: Hot plates, magnetic stir plates, ventilation hood.
- Electronic Devices Used: Computers, electric balance
Abilities:
- Some Science coursework and background.
- Physical Requirements: LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 2 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Use of arm and/ or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work.
- Visual Acuity Requirement (including color, depth perception and field of vision): close assembly, visual inspection, using measurement devices.
- Environmental Conditions: Activities occur inside and outside, subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin; fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. This position is very versatile, and accommodations can be made to the student's requirements.
