What are the responsibilities and job description for the County Youth Coordinator position at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach?
Iowa 4-H and the County Youth Coordinator will focus on Positive Youth Development (PYD). This position will work with youth, volunteers, and professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate a progressive series of educational programs and experiences that work toward multiple life skill outcomes (productive citizens, outstanding communicators, effective leaders, and successful learners). This position should empower youth to reach their full potential through Youth Adult Partnerships and research-based experiences.
Post secondary degree required in education or related field and/or 3 years experience working with youth, volunteers, and event planning. Knowledge and experience in 4-H would be very valuable for this position.
Responsibilities
- Develop partnerships with external and internal partners to deliver high quality curriculum developed by ISU and other land grant universities.
- Manage, promote and support youth development programs, 4-H community clubs, Clover Kids and regional and statewide 4-H events and activities to current and prospective members and programs in compliance with statewide policies.
- Work in collaboration with the Black Hawk County Fair Board to plan and coordinate county 4-H fair and youth activities and attend fair board meetings as necessary.
- Develop annual programs of work and evaluate activities and programs.
- Work with Regional County Youth Coordinators to organize and deliver multi-county 4-H events and activities.
- Plan, promote and implement educational activities such as camps, events, and 4-H workshops.
- Coordinate leadership training for youth and volunteers.
- Maintain appropriate records such as 4-H online and prepare statistical reports.
- Ability to maintain and oversee budgets that provide accuracy and accountability.
- Develop and implement a year-round county recruitment and retention strategy for youth and volunteers.
- Provide support for volunteer management system by assisting volunteer coordinator with identifying volunteer needs; maintaining role in volunteer training; supporting youth-related volunteers; and recognizing and evaluating the contributions of volunteers, youth committees, and project committees.
- Maintain communication with 4-H members, volunteers, staff and the public, via newsletters, website, news releases, or social media.
- Schedule and facilitate meetings with County Youth Council, club leaders, and liaison between Extension and Fair board.
- Coordinate all forms and correspondence for regional and state events and opportunities such as State Conference, awards selection, State Fair, camps and trips.
- Coordinate record bookkeeping, evaluation, and recognition process.
- Coordinate and oversee 4-H fundraising activities related to position.
- Provide leadership to 4-H Youth Advisory Committee and assure alignment with policies.
- Assist with media and marketing efforts as needed with marketing and volunteer coordinator.
- Ensure policy compliance with Iowa 4-H and ISUEO for all youth programs.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other groups, agencies, organizations, and schools.
- Other duties as assigned.
