Job Description:
Ames Laboratory is seeking candidates for an Electrician II position within the Facilities and Engineering Services (FES) department. Ames Laboratory is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funded National Laboratory operated through a contractual agreement with Iowa State University (ISU).
Under general supervision, the incumbent applies knowledge, skills, and abilities at the journey level to maintain, install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate electronic control systems, electrical systems, and related equipment and devices (generally less than 600V). The incumbent will demonstrate Journeyman Electrician qualifications, training, experience, and technical knowledge, and follow recognized procedures and techniques in the completion of work. The incumbent will assume responsibility for the coordination and accomplishment of maintenance, operations, and modifications. The Electrician II will utilize special tools, equipment, and processes (such as insulation testers, thermal imaging cameras and Thermal/Infrared (TIR) Predictive Testing procedures) to collect, perform initial diagnostics, and respond to data through established guidelines for preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with staff, scientists, students, and the public in order to provide excellent customer service. Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to incorporate appropriate safety precautions is important to success in this position. The ability to attend required courses regarding personal protective equipment (PPE), wear and maintain PPE, and fully adhere to the requirements set forth in the Personal Protective Equipment Program are required by the duties of this position.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
