Position Overview:
The Quality Technician at Iowa Aluminum plays an important role in supporting product quality throughout the extrusion process. This position is responsible for inspecting aluminum extrusions, verifying measurements, identifying quality concerns, and helping ensure products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
This role is primarily based at the extrusion press but requires flexibility across the extrusion department. Quality Technicians are expected to support production needs by moving between extrusion presses and assisting at related workstations, including the extrusion saw and stretcher, when needed. This position requires a strong focus on safety, quality, teamwork, and the ability to follow established procedures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Inspection and Verification:
- Conduct regular inspections at the extrusion press to measure the dimensions of samples, ensuring they meet specified standards.
- Check the appearance of materials for any defects or inconsistencies that could affect quality.
- Verify saw operator measurements and cuts to ensure accuracy and compliance with product specifications.
- Quality Control and Management:
- Inspect non-conforming products and manage the inspection of returned materials from customers.
- Confirm that the extrusion team adheres to the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all quality checks and inspection results.
- Report any quality deviations or concerns.
- Ensure that all quality checks are thoroughly performed and documented according to Iowa Aluminum's inspection process.
- Maintenance and Safety Compliance:
- Responsible for maintaining all measuring equipment and tools required for the job.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization around the press area to prevent potential quality issues.
- Comply with all quality-related policies, procedures, and systems.
- Participate in safety and job training sessions as required.
- Team Collaboration:
- Actively collaborate with the press operators, stretcher operators, and saw operators to ensure a cohesive production process.
- Support team efforts in troubleshooting and problem-solving to enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Assist with log loading, scrap dumping, tooling changes, and sample cutting during downtime.
- Provide training and assistance to new team members or operators as needed.
