What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Specialist position at IOU Billing?
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Biller to join our growing mental health practice. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of behavioral health billing, insurance claims processing, and revenue cycle management. Experience with ICANotes and Waystar is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Submit and manage insurance claims for mental health services (electronic and paper)
- Process payments, denials, and adjustments accurately and timely
- Follow up on outstanding claims and resolve billing discrepancies
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits
- Obtain and manage prior authorizations for services as required by payers
- Track authorization status, ensure timely renewals, and maintain accurate records
- Post payments and reconcile accounts
- Work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure accurate documentation and billing
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and payer regulations
- Monitor accounts receivable and aging reports to optimize collections
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in medical billing, preferably in mental health/behavioral health
- Proficiency with ICANotes and Waystar (required)
- Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and insurance billing procedures
- Experience with claim follow-up, denials management, appeals, and authorizations
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Maryland insurance regulations and billing requirements (a plus)
