Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Activities Director to lead engaging recreational and social programs within our senior living community. The ideal candidate will have experience in nursing home settings, or long-term care, with a strong background in event planning, dementia care, and therapeutic activities. This role involves creating meaningful experiences that enhance residents' quality of life, promote social interaction, and support their emotional well-being. The Activities Director will work closely with residents, families, and staff to develop tailored programs that meet individual needs and interests.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities, events, and outings tailored to residents' interests and abilities
- Coordinate therapeutic activities such as memory care exercises, Alzheimer's care programs, and recreational therapy sessions
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed to promote independence and engagement
- Manage activity schedules efficiently to ensure a balanced calendar of events that encourage socialization and mental stimulation
- Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, and caregivers to develop personalized activity plans for residents with disabilities or special needs
- Provide counseling on aging issues and support residents' emotional well-being through meaningful interactions
- Lead efforts in dementia care and memory support programs to enhance cognitive function and resident safety
- Maintain accurate records of participation and resident feedback to continually improve program offerings
- Foster a positive environment that encourages socialization, creativity, and community involvement
Experience
- Prior experience in nursing homes, or long-term care environments is highly preferred
- Proven expertise in event planning, recreational therapy, or senior activity programming
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's disease, dementia care, memory care strategies, and caregiving best practices
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in home & community care settings is advantageous
- Strong communication skills essential for engaging residents effectively and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Background in social work or counseling related to aging issues is beneficial
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules efficiently while adapting to changing resident needs
