What are the responsibilities and job description for the PVD/PACVD Coatings Quality Assurance Inspector position at Ionbond USA?
Step into a day where precision meets purpose. At Ionbond — Chicago Coating Center, you will be the gatekeeper of quality for advanced coatings applied to aerospace parts and industrial components. From your first walkthrough of the lab to the last recorded measurement, your work safeguards performance and customer trust. This role reports to the QHSE Manager at our Chicago facility.
A day in the lifeYou begin by reviewing the production queue and setting up precision inspection equipment. Coated parts arrive—some aerospace, others industrial—and you verify coating thickness, adherence, surface finish, substrate and coating hardness, dimensional accuracy, and visual appearance. You capture findings according to established methods and procedures, ensuring each entry is complete and traceable.
Mid-shift, you support supervised audits: control plan and product audits, 5S, HSE, QMS self-assessments, and customer-supplied audit forms. You maintain document and data control, update daily inspection logs promptly, and collaborate closely with operators and supervisors to keep quality and workflow aligned. Your workstation and lab equipment are kept clean, calibrated, and compliant with safety guidelines. You handle precision inspection set-ups, champion the 5S program in QC and beyond, communicate issues clearly, and—when needed—take on other duties as assigned.
