Job Summary:
The Electrical Journeyman is a skilled professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. This role requires a thorough understanding of electrical codes, safety regulations, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The Electrical Journeyman will interpret blueprints, troubleshoot electrical issues, and ensure all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Installation:
o Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
o Ensure that all installations are in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
o Measure, cut, bend, thread, and install conduit and electrical conductors.
o Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
• Troubleshooting & Repair:
o Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools.
o Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure code compliance.
• Maintenance:
o Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
o Inspect and test electrical systems to ensure proper functioning.
• Safety & Compliance:
o Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
o Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
o Identify and report potential electrical hazards.
• Blueprint Interpretation:
o Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine the layouts of electrical systems.
• Teamwork & Supervision:
o Work effectively with other journeymen, apprentices, and various trades.
o Provide guidance and training to apprentices and junior electricians, ensuring their adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Material Management:
o Estimate material requirements and order necessary supplies.
o Manage and organize tools and equipment on job sites.
• Documentation:
o Complete all necessary paperwork, including work orders, inspection reports, and time sheets, accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
• Education & Certification:
o High school diploma or equivalent.
o Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program.
o Valid Journeyman Electrician license in [State(s) where work is performed].
o OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
• Experience:
o Hold a current North Dakota Journeyman Electrician License
o Proven experience in commercial and industrial electrical work.
• Skills:
o Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
o Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
o Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical systems.
o Ability to use a variety of electrical tools and testing equipment safely and effectively.
o Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
