About the Role
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and organized Medical Record Clerk for a temporary assignment within Brookhaven National Labs healthcare facility. This role plays a vital part in maintaining accurate, complete, and compliant patient medical records. The ideal candidate is thorough, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile, verify, and file medical records for hospital or clinic patients.
- Prepare folders and maintain records for newly admitted patients.
- Review patient medical record folders for completeness and assemble documents in standard order.
- Ensure required reports and physician signatures are present in inpatient and emergency department records.
- Route incomplete records to the appropriate staff or prepare reports for administration regarding missing documentation.
- Confirm receipt of all current records for recently discharged patients.
- Compile daily and periodic statistics, including:
- Admissions
- Discharges
- Births
- Deaths
- Types of treatment rendered
- Record diagnoses, treatments, and operations for use in hospital insurance billing processes.
- Maintain the death log and process birth certificates.
- Assist staff with coding of medical records.
- Make copies of medical records using duplicating equipment.
- Schedule and post laboratory test results to patient records as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in medical records, health information management, or a healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow established procedures and confidentiality standards.
- Proficiency with office equipment and familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Pay: $22.64 - $27.26 per hour
