Position Summary
ION is seeking someone to lead our Biology team in San Marcos, TX. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists to deliver high-quality, data-driven insights to clients and develop novel fluorescence-based cellular assays. The Head of Biology will be primarily responsible for managing projects (external services and internal R&D projects), supporting the planning and execution of cell-based experiments, and interpreting results in order to present meaningful insights to relevant stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Apply expert knowledge of membrane protein pharmacology and fluorescence-based, drug discovery screening to design and commercialize innovative solutions for our customers, and deliver high quality screening data for collaborators.
Manage a team responsible for performing ion channel, GPCR, SLC transporter, and other mammalian cell-based assays critical for assay development using a range of fluorescence-based methods and advanced instrumentation (e.g. HTS, fluorescence microscopes, plate readers).
Collaborate closely with colleagues, partners, and customers to accelerate projects, design experiments, provide support, and interpret results. Routinely create graphics, reports, and presentations to document and share experimental results with relevant stakeholders, and for use in the commercialization and marketing of products.
Participate as a key thought leader to motivate new projects and support company-wide expansion and innovation initiatives.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or Bioengineering is required. Experience performing fluorescence-based, ion channel or GPCR screening is essential.
Prior work in a BSL-2 lab with >5 years experience conducting multi-well, plate-based assays using high-throughput screening instrumentation is required.
Prior management of a technical team with proven performance to deliver high-quality results or products is preferred.
Strong data analytics skills, ability to interpret results, design of follow-up experiments, troubleshoot issues with assay performance, and effectively present results and conclusions to co-workers, collaborators and senior leadership.
