JOB TITLE: Controller

Position Summary
The Controller serves as the senior accounting leader for the company, with full ownership and accountability for all accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Financial Reporting.
This role ensures the integrity of the company’s books and records by establishing, enforcing, and maintaining sound accounting processes and internal controls, and by delivering accurate, timely, and decision-useful financial information to the Division President and General Manager.
The Controller plays a critical leadership role in product costing and margin accuracy and acts as the primary accounting liaison with the corporate accounting team to ensure compliance with company policies and US GAAP.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Ownership
- Serve as the primary accounting authority for the company, owning the end-to-end accounting function.
- Lead and oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and General Ledger activities.
- Establish, document, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across all accounting functions.
- Ensure all accounting activities are executed accurately, consistently, and in compliance with US GAAP and corporate standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff; ensure appropriate segregation of duties and cross-training.
Financial Reporting & Decision Support
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including detailed margin and cost analysis.
- Provide the President and General Manager with clear, actionable financial insights, including:
- Product and customer profitability
- Cost trends and margin drivers
- Inventory and working capital metrics
- Develop and maintain weekly and monthly operating reports that translate accounting data into operational insight.
- Support pricing decisions, customer quotes, and contract reviews through accurate and defensible cost and margin analysis.
Accounting Operations & Close
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Ensure all inventory, manufacturing, and accrual-related entries are properly recorded and reviewed.
- Maintain strong internal controls over inventory, costing, and financial reporting.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with US GAAP and corporate accounting policies.
Corporate Coordination & Compliance
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the corporate accounting and finance team for:
- Monthly consolidation and reporting
- Accounting policy implementation
- Audit support and documentation
- Support internal and external audits, with particular emphasis on inventory and cost-related procedures.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning in coordination with corporate finance.
Systems, Process Improvement & Leadership
- Maintain data integrity within the ERP system, particularly related to manufacturing, inventory, and costing transactions.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance costing accuracy, reporting efficiency, and operational visibility.
- Develop and maintain documentation and procedures for inventory movements, costing changes, and close activities.
- Supervise and develop site accounting staff, as applicable; cross-train to ensure continuity and coverage.
- Participate in special projects as requested by site or corporate leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing cost accounting.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing variance analysis.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
Preferred
- CPA or CMA designation.
- Experience in liquid manufacturing, supplements, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience working within a multi-site or private equity–backed organization.
