What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior / Staff Software Engineer position at Invoca?
About Invoca
Invoca is an AI-powered revenue execution platform that brings together marketing, commerce, and contact center teams to turn every customer interaction into measurable, profitable growth. Join our dynamic, fast-growing team, where innovation and collaboration are at the core of our culture.
About The Role
Invoca is building an agentic development environment, one where software is increasingly designed, written, tested, deployed, and operated with AI as a first-class collaborator, not an experiment on the side. Every engineering discipline at Invoca, from reliability and security to data, quality, and product development, is being asked to rethink how work gets done in that environment.
This role is not defined by a single tool or technology stack. It's defined by outcomes: the speed, quality, and trust that your discipline brings to how Invoca ships AI-powered products. Whatever your specialty, you own a critical stage of how software moves from idea to customer impact, and you're expected to make that stage faster, safer, and smarter over time.
Success in this role is measured by business and product outcomes, not activity: how much faster and safer Invoca ships, how much more reliable and secure our systems are, and how effectively you turn your domain into a source of company-wide leverage.
What You'll Do
Own an Outcome, Not Just a Function
We are looking for Senior and Staff-level engineers who build leverage in their domain, not just execute within it. This description represents roles spanning all specializations across Software Engineering. You likely have:
Within 12 months, success in this role will look like:
United States: Greater Los Angeles Area (including Santa Barbara and San Diego)
Candidates must be based within ~2 hour drive of these areas. Occasional business travel may be required.
Compensation, Benefits & Perks

That's why we offer competitive compensation and benefits designed to support your health, your family, your growth, and your life outside of work. For teammates in the U.S., health benefits begin on your first day of employment.

What You'll Do
Own an Outcome, Not Just a Function
- Take end-to-end accountability for a critical stage of Invoca's engineering lifecycle in your domain, whether that's reliability, security, data, quality, delivery, customer deployment, or architecture.
- Define what βgreatβ looks like in your domain and hold the bar, rather than waiting for it to be defined for you.
- Identify where AI and agentic workflows can meaningfully improve your domain: faster incident detection, smarter test generation, automated security review, adaptive data pipelines, self-healing deployments, or similar.
- Establish safe, observable, and auditable ways to bring AI into your workflows, and help the teams around you adopt them with confidence.
- Build shared practices, tooling, or platforms in your domain that every team can adopt, replacing one-off, team-specific approaches.
- Treat your domain as a product with internal users: define adoption goals and measure whether teams are actually better off because of your work.
- Translate technical decisions in your domain into terms leadership and product teams care about: velocity, cost, risk, customer trust, and revenue impact.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to prioritize your work based on measurable business and customer impact, not technical elegance alone.
- Drive direction and standards across multiple teams in your area of expertise.
- Influence decisions through clarity, judgment, and evidence, and act as a trusted advisor to engineering and product leadership.
We are looking for Senior and Staff-level engineers who build leverage in their domain, not just execute within it. This description represents roles spanning all specializations across Software Engineering. You likely have:
- 5 years of experience (Senior) or 8 years of experience (Staff) with deep expertise in your engineering specialization, with a track record of measurable impact in production environments.
- Experience building systems, tools, or practices that were adopted broadly because they demonstrably improved speed, quality, or safety.
- Curiosity about AI and agentic workflows, and a track record of practically applying new tools rather than just being interested in them.
- Strong technical judgment with a bias toward simplicity and adoption over theoretical completeness.
- Ability to connect technical work to business and customer outcomes, and to communicate that connection clearly.
- Experience partnering across engineering, product, and business functions.
- High ownership mindset, curiosity, and urgency in a fast-moving, evolving technical environment.
Within 12 months, success in this role will look like:
- Your domain shows clear, measurable improvement in the outcome it's meant to drive: reliability, security posture, data quality, product quality, delivery speed, customer time-to-value, or architectural coherence, depending on your specialty.
- Practices or platforms you've built are adopted broadly across engineering, not just within your immediate team.
- AI and agentic workflows are meaningfully integrated into your domain, with clear safety and observability in place.
- Engineering and product leadership treat you as a trusted authority in your domain.
- Your work has a demonstrable, articulable connection to business or customer outcomes.
