Position Summary
The Submissions Gatekeeper is responsible for reviewing, organizing, and routing incoming insurance submissions. This position ensures submissions meet minimum underwriting requirements, gathers missing information from brokers, maintains accurate records in agency management systems, and supports the underwriting team by prioritizing opportunities according to company guidelines.
The ideal candidate is proactive, customer-service oriented, technologically savvy, and capable of managing a high volume of submissions without sacrificing accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Review all incoming submissions for completeness and eligibility.
- Screen risks based on carrier and program appetite guidelines.
- Request missing documentation from brokers and agents.
- Accurately enter submissions into agency management and CRM systems.
- Assign submissions to appropriate underwriters based on class, territory, and workload.
- Monitor submission workflows and follow up on outstanding items.
- Maintain clean and organized electronic files.
- Track submission metrics, turnaround times, and production reports.
- Communicate professionally with retail agents, brokers, carriers, and internal staff.
- Escalate unusual or complex submissions to underwriting management.
- Assist in improving submission intake processes and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in insurance, underwriting support, account management, agency operations, or related administrative roles.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred
- Experience working for a wholesale broker, MGA, carrier, or underwriting company.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance products.
- Familiarity with agency management systems, CRM platforms, and document management software.
- Property & Casualty insurance license or willingness to obtain one.
