Job Summary
The Sr. HAP Accountant supports the HAP Accounting team and the HAP Accounting Manager by providing accurate and timely information to internal and external customers regarding Housing Authority accounting needs. This position performs monthly audits to ensure programming compliance and works closely with internal and external partners to confirm that HAP fund transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner. The Sr. HAP Accountant is primarily responsible for managing assigned market workflows, payments, and audits, while serving as the customer support liaison between Invitation Homes teams and Participating Housing Authorities (PHAs). In this capacity, the role supports the HAP Accounting team in maintaining the integrity of resident profile accounts, administering monthly HAP rent payment activity, preparing HAP reporting and analysis, monitoring aged HAP receivables, and partnering with the Operations Team to research, resolve, and evaluate issues impacting HAP accounts, with a focus on ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all assigned responsibilities.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is: $57,862.50 - $100,295.00, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable employment laws.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in development and implementation of all processes, procedures and policies related to HAP Accounting
- Training and mentoring staff on the HAP Accounting Team
- Supporting the HAP Accounting team in Research HAP and Resident AR balances on the Resident ledger to determine accuracy of the payment application
- Access Housing Authority portals to extract payment information
- Create receipt batches in Yardi to apply HAP payments
- Communicate with Property Management field personnel and HAP Authorities to resolve discrepancies and share HAP correspondence
- Review HAP contracts and the Resident’s lease to verify charges
- Support the HAP Accounting Manager as needed and perform other duties as assigned
- BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience
- Real estate development, hospitality, and/or property management experience preferred
- Knowledge of HUD policies and regulations
- Knowledge and use of Yardi property management software preferred
- Intermediate Excel user with ability to export / create documents for internal reporting
- Moderate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong written/oral and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate in a professional manner with all levels in the organization, across functional groups
- Ability to communicate processes / procedures in an easily comprehensible manner
- Analytical; with the ability to interpret medium to complex issues, analyze multiple variables, to determine the root problem and bring issues to a successful conclusion in a high-volume fast paced environment
- Organized and flexible; with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Accuracy; with the ability to audit / reconcile resident ledgers and accounting systems to ensure data integrity
- Hybrid work schedule (4 days minimum per week required in office).
