What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database Engineer position at InvestCloudOct2024?

InvestCloud is looking for a practical, detail-focused Database Engineer with a passion for financial data and a desire to grow into a hands-on architecture or platform engineering role. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their data career who enjoys working with real-world investment data, learning from experienced architects, and helping build the foundation for next-generation wealth technology.

You’ll work on ingestion pipelines, optimize SQL queries, help model data for performance and scale, and gain exposure to both transactional systems and analytical workflows in the US Wealth space.

What does a Great Database Engineer do

You’ll partner with engineers, product managers, and data architects to build and maintain clean, scalable, and reliable datasets that power key digital experiences in wealth management. If you’re energized by structured data, interested in how trades, accounts, and positions come together behind the scenes—and you want to sharpen your skills with modern cloud tools—this is your path.

Principal Responsibilities
Help design and maintain SQL-based schemas and pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and exposing wealth-related data (accounts, positions, transactions, performance).
Support file-based and table-based storage solutions—from raw data landing zones to curated data marts.
Write efficient, well-structured SQL for ETL/ELT jobs, data validation, and data modeling.
Assist in building out data access layers that support APIs, reports, dashboards, and performance analytics.
Collaborate with senior data architects and engineers to implement data modeling best practices.
Work with QA and product teams to validate accuracy, completeness, and business alignment of data.
Contribute to data documentation and internal knowledge sharing to reduce onboarding time and system confusion.

 Preferred Skills & Experience
3 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or ETL-focused role
Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases (e.g., Postgres, SQL Server, Snowflake)
Exposure to cloud data services (e.g., AWS RDS, S3, Glue, Redshift, or equivalent)
A solid understanding of data modeling principles, including normalization, indexing, and performance tuning
Interest in or exposure to US Wealth Management data—especially trades, positions, custodians, or portfolio accounting systems
Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and grow your technical skills in a production environment

 Preferred Qualifications
Experience with financial datasets or vendors (e.g., custodians, CRMs, performance systems)
Exposure to data pipeline tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Talend) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell)
Understanding of file-based formats (e.g., Parquet, JSON, CSV) and batch ingestion patterns
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum workflows, Jira, Confluence, Git

 What Sets You Apart
You care about data quality, structure, and traceability—not just getting the job done, but getting it right.
You’re curious about the business side of wealth data—why something is modeled a certain way, and how it will be used.
You’re looking for a place to grow your skills with mentorship and hands-on exposure to a modern financial data stack.
