Job Summary
Intex Electrical is seeking a skilled and dependable Datacom / Electrical Technician to join our team.
The Datacom Technician is responsible for the installation, integration, and support of low-voltage systems, including structured cabling, networking equipment, and lighting control systems.
Responsibilities
Performs all electrical tasks with general supervision, possesses journeyman license.
- Install, route, and secure low-voltage cabling according to industry standards
- Terminate and label cables, patch panels, and devices accurately
- Perform cable testing using certification equipment and document results
- Install and configure basic networking hardware and support connectivity issues
- Install and program lighting control devices and systems as required
- Coordinate with project managers, electricians, and other trades to meet project timelines
- Identify and resolve system issues quickly to minimize downtime
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Maintain tools, equipment, and material inventory
- Provide updates on project progress and report any issues or delays
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components.
- Perform service calls for electrical repairs, maintenance, and system upgrades.
- Install electrical devices, fixtures, panels, and related equipment as required.
- Identify electrical problems using testing devices and recommend corrective solutions.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate service reports, work orders, and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding issues, solutions, and recommendations.
- Coordinate with the Service Manager regarding scheduling, materials, and project needs.
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe working condition.
- Promote a safe work environment and follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for additional service work or improvements for clients.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in structured cabling installation and termination
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, switches, routers)
- Experience with lighting control systems (Lutron, Crestron, or similar platforms)
- Ability to use cable testers, certification tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Blueprint and schematic reading proficiency
- Ability to diagnose and resolve cabling, network, and lighting control issues
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively with field teams, supervisors, and other trades
- Clear communication of technical issues and project updates
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in fast-paced environments
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting ability
- Professional communication and customer service skills

- Attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Positively identify colors of wires.
- Reading and drawing prints and schematics.
- Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
- Must use all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches.
- Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
- Operate equipment, trenchers, back hoe, lift trucks in a safe manner.
- Practices and comprehends safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Policy Handbook, Haz Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
- Operates two (2) handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers.
- Operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmission.
- Read and interprets maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blue prints and written instructions.
- Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts (electric or gas powered).
- Work energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in Safety Policy.
- Supervise assigned job site employees to complete project.
- Personal weight and tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladders (Class 1-250lbs, Class 2-300lbs).
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach over head.
- Lift 51 pounds, 20 times per day. Constantly move about on the feet.
- Climb ladders of all types.
- Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
- Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
- Possess good vision, normal or corrected.
- Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
- Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
- Must be able to positively identify different colors of wiring.
