- Perform thorough pre-trip vehicle inspections at the beginning of each workday and thorough post-trip vehicle inspections at the end of each workday.
- Document and report any required maintenance or repairs found during the vehicle inspection process.
- Operate a tractor/trailer combination vehicle in a safe manner while complying with all laws and regulations pertaining to the operation thereof.
- Remain alert and attentive to ensure the safe operation of fleet vehicles.
- Drive and work in all kinds of weather conditions and modify driving behaviors according to changing weather and traffic conditions.
- Ensure loads are secure according to FMCSA regulations.
- Follow all Hours-of-Service rules through the use of an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) or, when necessary, a paper log.
- Assist with loading/unloading trailers at customer facilities.
- Maintain a positive attitude and provide friendly and professional customer service.
- Hostle trailers at customer facilities as needed.
- Help keep equipment in good repair by sweeping out, ensuring tires are properly inflated, perform minor repairs, ensure proper paperwork and permits are present, etc.
- Complete and turn in all paperwork in a timely manner.
- Plan routes according to company approved truck routes.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Be familiar with and comply with FMCSA rules and regulations.
- Class A CDL.
- 1-2 years verifiable experience operating Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs).
- Valid DOT medical certification.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- No more than two (2) moving violations within the past three (3) years.
- No more than one (1) chargeable or preventable motor vehicle accident within the past three (3) years.
- No convictions of any offense involving the operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs within the past seven (7) years.
- No convictions for careless or reckless driving of a motor vehicle within the past three (3) years.
- No convictions for a criminal offense involving a CMV, including operating while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, illegally transporting a controlled substance, or a felony involving the use of a CMV.
- No felony convictions of any kind.
- No convictions for misdemeanor domestic violence.
- Working knowledge of FMCSA safety regulations
- Ability to read, write, and converse in English
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Basic skills operating a computer or other electronic devices
- Must have current/valid DOT medical certification
- Ability to assist with loading/unloading trailers and securing loads inside trailers
- Able to bend, crouch, and crawl under trailers to perform required inspections
- Able to spend extended periods of time sitting and driving.
- Local Drivers routinely work in all types of weather conditions including cold, snow, ice, wind, excessive heat, etc.
